I was watching The Leftovers last night and there was a scene when one of the characters loses her temper and suddenly starts beating up a guy. A few scenes later she’s sitting in a holding cell at the police station, a guard comes up and calls her last name, and she gets let out of jail with seemingly no consequences. This happens ALL THE TIME on television and it never makes sense. Were the charges dropped? If so, why? Was she charged at all? Does she not have to go to court for assault?
I get that moving the plot forward is generally the reason for why nonsensical things happen on TV, but this one irritates the crap out of me. Does anyone else feel this way, or do I just have a laughably poor understanding of how getting arrested (in America) works?
