How does a soap opera go that long without the plot spinning out of control? (Like every cop series that starts in a small town and ends up fighting international ninja-assassin terrorists armed with chemical weapons.) And how does casting work - do they kill off characters every few years to create new, younger ones or pretend they’ve moved away? Or is it the same actors from the 1970s but now they’re retired?
