Not necessarily the most devastating, but you were annoyed as hell either because they should have done better than they did. While the refs are also a good reason to be upset after a loss, I’m excluding them because that should be its own post.
For me, with the Jets, it’s the 2004 divisional round game @ Pittsburgh against the 15-1 Steelers. It was a close game the whole way through, and we had 2 chances to win the game at the end of regulation, but f’d it up. On our first drive, we tried a FG from 47 yards out, and it hit the crossbar. The Steelers turn the ball over & we have enough time to run a few plays, but the coaches decide to kick it from 43 yards out, and we missed it again.
For the Bears, the Super Bowl loss is #1 because the defense did fucking EVERYTHING you could reasonably ask the defense to do when down 2 of their best players (Mike Brown and Tommie Harris), but Rex Grossman, who admitted to not fucking studying for the final game of the season because it was NYE single-handedly guaranteed the Colts would win.
A close second is the final game of the 2013 season against Green Bay. Rodgers recovered a fumble while all 11 Bears defenders stood around. On top of that, a busted coverage allowed Green Bay a last-second TD for the win. Chris Conte always gets criticism for it, but it later came out that Lance Briggs, the captain of the defense, didn’t shout the audible loud enough for the secondary to hear it.
