Guilford College
Guilford College is a college that is also located in Greensboro, NC. Both schools have competed since 1997 for the Gate City Soup Bowl. On top of both teams competing on the field, the fans get in on the action and try to raise more canned food than the other, with the winner donating to the charity of their choice. The Cup Award, and bragging rights, go to the winner of the food drive, while the winner of the game get the Gate City Soup Bowl Trophy. Currently the Pride trail 8-15, and have not won a game since 2012. Each team has played each other every year since since 1997, except 2017-2020. Guilford used to use Greensboro old stadium, Jamieson Stadium, before their current stadium was built in 1961

The Greats
Greatest Games:
24-21 vs Shenandoah 2002
- In Greensboro, Shenandoah is preparing to salvage a disaster of a season so far. Hoping to beat lackluster 1-4 Greensboro that had just lost to Christopher Newport. The Hornets had earned their first win of the season against Christopher Newport, so spirits are cautiously hopeful. At the end of the 1st quarter the Hornets have gone up 7-0, but by the half the Pride swung back with 2 touchdowns in less than 3 minutes. by 5 minutes left in the half, the Pride has tied it up and Shenandoah can not find the end zone or the field goal. It does not even matter for Shenandoah, as at 9:45 on a cool October night the Pride scores a field goal to win 24-21 in OT.
Greatest Coaches:
Marion Kirby
- Marion Kirby was the first coach of the Pride. While 16-32 overall, That is the highest winning percentage of any coach (32%). Ignoring the first season of 10 straight losses, that would have been a winning percentage of 40%. He is the only coach to have back to back non-losing seasons at any point in his career with the Pride.
Traditions
- Gate City Soup Bowl Food Drive
The Pride and Quakers team up during rivalry, using their fueled hatred to find canned foods for the food insecure of Greensboro. by 2013 over 70,000 nonperishable goods have been donated to the Greensboro Urban Ministry and Second Harvest. The canned food drive winners bring home the bragging rights of the Cup Award.

What Is and What is to Come
Greensboro is an unenviable job to have. There has never been a winning season ever, and no season that has not been at 0.500 since 2012. Often struggling to even keep games close. 2023 was the first time since 2015 that multiple games were even won. With a new doormat hopeful, Southern Virginia, Greensboro can only hope that the Pride will not place last every year. Maybe Coach Card has some tricks to pull for slow, yet steady and needed growth for the Pride.
Overtime
- The original building was destroyed by fire in 1863, forcing the college to close for ten years. in 1941 the Main Building was struck by lightning, causing some destruction
