Original Title: Outer Range S2: Just finished the season here is my NO SPOILERS review. Its less weird, less bizarre but more things happen, the plot moves quicker than S1 but they sideline some of their best characters.

For those unaware the original creator and show runner of this series got canned and now its being run by someone else and also Josh Brolin apparently

Its quite obviously less weird than than season one due to this. And whats worse is that from time to time the writers seem to be like “oh yeah this show has weird stuff in it, we gotta jam a little weirdness into it now and then”. But it feels forced and not organic. (flash backs to S2 of Twin Peaks after Lynch left)

They sidelined Will Pattons character and made him just more normal which is a true shame because he was fantastic in season one. They sidelined the weird Tillerson son (the guy who sings) in favor of his more normal brother who looks like a frat bro. Again, making the show less weird and less interesting.

LOTS of shots of Josh Brolin gazing into the horizon and brooding. If you are a fan of watching Josh Brolin brood this is your time to shine.

Having said that the plot this season moves much faster. More people go into the hole and have more crazy time travel adventures. The hole feels a bit less like a mystery box and is a bit more fleshed out as far as what happens and how it works.

One big mystery that got dangled in the first season was solved in the second, so that was nice.

My overall issue though is that it feels somewhat directionless. It feels like lots of things happen, events pop off, but there is no overall destination the show is headed for. If you compare it to another timey wimey show like Dark for instance: with Dark you always had the impression there was someone behind the scenes with a grand over arching plan. This show? not so much.

I will for sure watch S3 though, hopefully it doesn’t take an eternity to make this time.
