Hollywood pays good money for actors and wants you to be able to see their entire face, so often main characters won’t wear helmets even in situations where they really should be wearing one for their own wellbeing, as demonstrated by the fact that all of the extras around them are wearing helmets into battle.
The same applies to characters not wearing hats in time periods or settings where there’s a cultural expectation that they should wear a hat or a practical reason one should wear one like the weather, once again the extras will be wearing hats but not the main characters. Especially noticeable with women in period pieces.
One of the most infamous examples of this is the Halo TV show, Master Chief is a video game character with an iconic helmet, only for the show to have him without it most of the time because obviously audiences really want to see the actor’s face and don’t care about his cool helmet, right?
What are some other notable examples of this? The Mandalorian is pretty much the only show I can think of that breaks this trend, at least with the Mandalorians who follow “the way”, everyone else goes without a helmet as much as possible, even Boba Fett.
