Think about it.
Before, a bad hire might suck at recruiting… either not signing guys that are good or just missing on QBs etc.
Now college head coaches are essentially NFL GMs. They’ll have salaries to hand out… and if they go and recruit some blue chipper they swear by and allocate tons of money to him and he stinks… oh man. Sure maybe there will be guidelines and things to save programs and coaches from themselves… but how long will that take? What about different conferences?
Just imagine if Notre Dame had to not only pay Charlie Weis an insane buyout, but now they’re stuck with a bunch of recruits with fat salaries who either stink or have no fit in the new coach’s system. Can you force them to all transfer? Or maybe they’re like “nah man, Charlie Weis signed me to a 5 million dollar contract to catch passes and no other school will give me that, I’m staying… I don’t care if the new coach wants to run the ball a bunch.”
