The late (great) Christopher Hitchens used to put forth a challenge toward theists regarding the morality of their belief in God. The challenge was this:
Name a moral action that cannot be accomplished without a belief in a God/religion. Now name a wicked action that can only be accomplished by belief in a God/religion. Source
The idea was that any genuinely moral action can be accomplished without the need for a God or religious belief; but there are numerous wicked actions that would require the belief in a God or religion in order to justify its morality (such as the 9/11 attacks, genital mutilation, Salem witch trials, etc.)
This challenge could easily be revised by replacing "God/Religion" with "the State" (Godverment) and still be valid.
So, I think it would be worth challenging people to name a moral action that can only be achieved through the force of the State?
