BSG dropped on Amazon Prime recently, so it’s only natural to kick off with watching the 2004 seasons starting from S1E1 “33”, but you’d be doing yourself a disservice.
BSG began with a 2-3 hour “Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series” released in 2003; it was a movie pilot and is essentially a Season 0. The “Mini-Series” is also on Prime, but it is not associated with the full seasons in any way. Amazon treats the "Mini-Series " and the “Seasons/Series” as completely separate Prime artifacts/entries.
Watch the “Mini-Series” before you watch the seasons.
So say we all.
The BSG “Razor” film is recommended between seasons 3 and 4, and there are a few web-exclusive background stories, so do look up a watchlist for viewing order. Some watchlists recommend other BSG prequels (“Caprica”, “Blood and Chrome”), but these were produced later than the “Mini-Series”, which is the true start of the BSG storyline and is all you really need.
EDIT: S1E1 “33” will catch a viewer up, but it may leave them a bit baffled, and the intent of this post is to prevent that.
