I’ve built a lot of UM related Lego before and the CFP trophy seemed like an obvious choice for my next build. I’m excited to create a display area for it along with some of the commemorative Michigan Daily covers I bought. It is quite sturdy (the inside is mostly hollow) and just like the real thing it easily detaches from the base. I purchased custom printed letter tiles rather than using a sticker for the writing. It is about 70% the size of the real trophy.

Many years ago Lego built a huge version of the CFP trophy but used yellow and gray bricks. I wanted to use colors more true to the actual trophy but the ones that made the most sense are available very limited piece types and can be extremely expensive. Lego can get pricy and I had just spent my life savings at MDen on title gear so needed to be especially careful.

I have previous experience building 3D curves with Lego (football and helmet) but they were more symmetrical and built with all the pieces facing one direction. For this build I wanted to have four different faces to the trophy which would allow me to squeeze in more detail in a smaller space. After spending a few weeks struggling with the form I got some help from another builder and developer who has been creating a Lego sculpture program. This gave me a really useful framework to start from. As I went on I ended up deviating from it a bit due to stylistic and piece considerations but it was immensely helpful in helping this take shape.
