As for the reason why this hasn’t been done until now, Entertainment Strategy Guy explains:
“My understanding is that Nielsen had technical difficulties distinguishing between streaming and linear runs of these shows that rerun constantly, and Nielsen has finally fixed the issue (with the studio’s help). On top of that, as their quote hints at, the studios didn’t agree to public disclosure for these shows, thus Nielsen couldn’t report on some of these shows. I’m glad that situation has changed!”
As of now Family Guy ranks #4 on the acquired chart, American Dad #15 and Law & Order SVU at #12 both on the on the acquired chart as well. Both Family Guy and American Dad are shown exclusively on Hulu while Law & Order SVU is non-exclusive. Since Hulu is now wholly owned by Disney as are Family Guy and American Dad, they should be reported on the original chart in the future and not the acquired chart.
