Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of Japanese movies and TV shows. But, they tend to be more flamboyant in terms of acting. The bad guys are whacky and unhinged. The good guys all just spout the same moralistic nonsense. Obviously, the big names in the show are spectacular. Asano and Sanada are great. But, the relatively unknown names in the show have very subtle powerhouse performances. Mariko, Buntaro, Omi, Fuji, Ishido, Toda, and almost literally everyone else.
