I can’t quite decide on whether or not I like Happy Days. It bores me, but I don’t want to stop watching
It’s weird. I’m about to start episode 11 of the first season, and it feels fake and scripted, but isn’t as interesting to me as Laverne and Shirley. I also don’t really find it to be all that funny (Laverne and Shirley, which I’m almost on s3 of, gets a chuckle out of me at least once every episode. Happy Days doesn’t.) I love the theme song, but even though I romanticized the 50s when I was little, there’s something about this show that just doesn’t appeal to me.
I think I do understand why people liked it, but I’m wondering if it’s weird that I can’t properly get into it. Maybe it’s because I’m 19.
Yeah but it’s hard to explain, it’s just that this is a different kind of fakeness than other sitcoms. Mr. Cunningham is almost always the reasonable man who gives Richie advice, Mrs. Cunningham is unintelligent and basically a stereotypical 50s housewife. It’s not interesting. I’m fine with shows wherein you know everything will be alright by the end, but Mrs. Cunningham has no hopes or dreams of her own, the parents don’t feel “human.” It actually bothers me, especially since it’s not that funny. A fair chunk of the episodes from season one so far are about Richie’s dates with girls, and it’s becoming repetitive. Laverne and Shirley had more intriguing plot lines.
At least on Laverne and Shirley, something interesting is always happening, some kind of physical comedy. I feel like happy days could just put me to sleep
