I believe there’s a reason behind this tactic.
Basically, Nintendo wants GitHub to set up automated filters for keywords related to their IP. They’re hoping that Microsoft, GitHubs owner, will take the carpet ban method to avoid any further litigation.
But, Microsoft has to tread carefully here. One major disaster and they may be handing GitLab a crapton of new costumers.
