We've all seen free societies decay into being authoritarian. And we know how difficult it is for a country to do the reverse and become freer. In fact, in most instances in history, free societies have only been established after a revolution and overthrowing of the old institutions. Rarely have they been established peacefully with democratic procedures. In fact, the only country that I can think of which has become freer with democratic procedures is Great Britain in the 19th century with the repeal of corn laws. I know that most people here, or at least me personally would prefer a peaceful way to being freer. So do you know any other instances in history where a country has become freer peacefully and with democratic procedures?
