Oh boy, with the Draft complete, it’s time for some wildly premature hot takes.
I know this was at least posted in 2022, I don’t think I ever saw one in 2023, but the theory is simple:
There are a number of prospective starting QBs this season that have, let’s say, a shaky grasp on a starter role moving forward. Whether unproven young QBs or veterans steering into a journeyman skid, there’s always the question: is this going to be the break out year, or are they about to define themselves as Not The Guy?
And really, what’s better than being able to look back at last year and say, yeah, I fucking called it? Just ignore the four other things that I absolutely did not call correctly, those don’t matter.
So in that spirit, here are the QBs that I would suggest have the biggest need to “prove themselves” going into the season:
- Jacoby Brissett, if he can fend off Drake Maye starting for any stretch of time
- Russell Wilson after the Denver Debacle (or Justin Fields if he can somehow unseat DangeRuss)
- Deshaun Watson (boo)
- CJ Stroud in year two
- Anthony Richardson in year one and a half
- Trevor Lawrence in his contract year
- Will Levis, can the AFC south have any old QBs goddamn
- Aiden O’Connell, if his Congress campaign isn’t too distracting
- Any of the non-rookie Hydra of Suck that is the Denver QB Room
- Daniel Jones if he ever sees the field thanks to his injury guarantees, or Drew Lock if he doesn’t
- Marcus Mariota… ? I have to imagine the Commanders are starting Jayden Daniels tbh
- Sam Darnold when he Makes Minnesota Great Again
- Jordan Love, a one year wonder?
- Bryce Young in HIS second year that he desperately wishes was his rookie year
- Tampa Bayker Mayfield
- Derek Carr
Rookies are left off the list because we haven’t even seen them play a single snap, so that’s a little too premature for even this premature hot takes exercise, but I guess go wild if you want to.
