I don’t know how common it is in the NFL, but the 2 objectively good offenses the Bears have had in the SB era had this happen.

In 1994, the Bears had a top 10 defense that took them to the playoffs and a wildcard win over division rival Minnesota Vikings.

The following year, the Bears had 2 1k receivers, their best rookie RB since Walter Payton, and not only the only QB to take every snap for his team, but threw for 3838 yards, 28 TDs and 10 INTs. The defense dropped to 22nd best. The following year, the Bears had a good defense again, but suffered career altering injuries to the Franchise-Qb-and-rb-to-be.

The 2012 Bears had 28 takaways through 8 games and were one of the most dominant defenses in recent history, but in 2013, when they finally invest in offensive players & coaches at the same time, they had the 31st ranked defense

Can anyone think of other occasions in which this happened? Bonus points if a team made the playoffs in back-to-back years with a good offense one year & a good defense the next
