I recently started watching The Boys and recognized Jennifer Esposito, who also appeared in Samantha Who?, which unlocked a memory and prompted me to revisit some sitcoms from the 2000s.

I’ve watched several episodes back when it originally aired, but I found it weaker compared to shows like How I Met Your Mother. So, I wanted to give it another shot. It’s a fun, easy-watch, simple, and funny show that brings back memories of simpler times.

It follows Samantha, who gets amnesia after an accident and loses all her memories. What is a funny thing is that past Samantha was pure evil, and disliked by almost everyone. Now, she’s awkwardly nice. I think it’s still great that even with amnesia, Samantha isn’t exactly a bright person. She can still be annoying and make messes, which is hilarious. The flashbacks of Evil Samantha are gold!

Christina Applegate is fantastic, and the supporting cast is equally funny. I enjoyed Jennifer Esposito’s character and her meanness, as well as how she sometimes blamed Samantha for things she couldn’t remember. While I’m not the biggest Melissa McCarthy fan, she does a good job here. Jean Smart, who won an Emmy for her role, is phenomenal and made me even more excited to watch her in Hacks this week.

The formula for each episode is mostly standard, but I thought “The Pill” (Season 2, Episode 3), where Samantha uses pills to regain her memories, was cleverly written and the show’s best. The finale is also good. There’s a minor cliffhanger, but the ending works overall. The funniest scene, in my opinion, is when Samantha tried to run away from the police while she was in a car but got arrested because she feared that he recognized her for something she did in her past before she ran away.

Overall, it’s not a five-star show, but it certainly doesn’t deserve to be forgotten.
