So my 37F girfriend wanted us to watch that series from her childhood (I’m 42M) called “Felicity” which I didn’t watch in the day and I said, well yeah let’s watch it. We’re a few episodes in, and what I’m liking so far is the ambience: I loved all that cardigan and wool sweaters, there are almost no cell phones (I chuckled at the mention of a beeper), the pacing is great, photography is warm and everything looks cozy, and the first-incarnation-of-starbucks-female-singer-with-an-acoustic-guitar-music sure is great.
What we’re not liking is that the writing doesn’t seem very good to me, her conflicts are childish and unrealistic (like OMG my first college party what a huge deal), she seems too self-centered, definitely narcissistic and a bit of a cold silent drama queen, always taking unrealistic whimsical decisions and giving the overall vibe that it’s an artificial female main character written by a dude…
Well, my question is: does it get better? My GF is also disappointed, as she remembered it better, or in her words, maybe she has changed tastes. But we’re willing to give it a chance if the writing gets better. What do you think?
