The rise in homicide rates in 2020 coincides exactly with the George Floyd protests. Cassell's research shows the data. Cassell theorizes that the increase is due to lack of enforcement but that is not certain. What is certain is the timing of the rise in homicide rates coincides exactly with the George Floyd protests. Look at the graphs to see how homicides spike during the first protests. After the spike the rates do go down but in several of the cities they clearly don't return to pre-protest levels.

Now the media is using the rise in homicides as a justification for gun control.
