Heard this on The Athletic’s podcast this morning. The hosts discussed which Big 12 team has the best shot to win a national championship in the 12-team (and a hypothetical 14-team) College Football Playoff era.
Interestingly enough, two of the three said Houston had the best long-term chance at winning a title. Sam Khan had his eggs in the Utah basket. No one was really sold on the conference winning, though, on account of the growing disparity between the SEC/Big Ten and everyone else.
I like Willie Fritz and all, but, it feels like Houston is leagues (pun intended) away from actually being relevant. I really like what Utah and Whittingham have done, and the same goes for K-State and Klieman. To me, the biggest gap between K-State and other teams in the conference is upside at QB - and for more than one season (RE: Rising and Bowman). Avery Johnsons don’t grow on trees in KS, so I may be off here. But, if Klieman can show his chops for developing QBs, maybe it becomes a destination for some top-100 signal-callers in the future?
