If you, a business owner, gets a letter from the mob saying that you need to start paying an extortion fee, you know that failing to do that will surely result in your business being burnt to the ground. And society treats extortion as a crime because we know what failure results in.
Similarly, when Congress, the makers of laws, sends your business a letter demanding you censor certain people, they are de facto violating the first amendment. And society should treat such demands as crimes because we know what failure results in.
Just like it's a trivial jump from refusing to pay extortion to having your business burnt down, it's a trivial jump from Congress demanding you censor people to Congress passing a law censoring people for you.
