@Cătă I think there is an assumption that the fediverse only consists of public profiles and posts. But there are actually several projects that have access control and privacy, and I think that will become more popular as the fediverse grows. I am not sure how they will deal with that.

And, on other platforms, it is possible to federate with a private profile. In that case, only your display name and fediverse address are revealed. And people can only see your public posts.

I think the issue is that this distinction may be too much for people who have never heard of the fediverse and don't understand what being part of a network means.
