For some reason I really like looking at bowl projections from earlier years, but sometimes they can teach us how weird way too early rankings can actually be.
I was looking at very early 2015 CFP picks for fun and for some reason most of them had Auburn in them (there were even some picks that had the Tigers in the national championship game), and guess what, the team ended 6-6 in the regular season.
There’s also 2021 Iowa State (which I didn’t even understand why they were ranked so high back then) and 2012 USC, which were even the pre-season Number 1 team (tho they didn’t completely fall apart until the latter half of the season)
