In the past, I have created a few conference alignments that focus on small size, geographic footprint, and historical precedence for the NCAA Football games, such as this one. While trying to adjust it for the upcoming game, I thought that there may not be enough conferences in game to do this, so I thought about combining conferences which in turn created 4 20-team super conferences, and 5 10-team minor conferences.
Power Conferences:
Rose Conference: A combination of the original Big Ten and Pac-10, named after the bowl game that both conferences have strong ties to.
| Arizona | Illinois |
|---|---|
| Arizona State | Indiana |
| California | Iowa |
| Oregon | Michigan |
| Oregon State | Michigan State |
| Stanford | Minnesota |
| UCLA | Northwestern |
| USC | Ohio State |
| Washington | Purdue |
| Washington State | Wisconsin |
Big 20 Conference: Sort of a fleshed out Big 8-SWC merger. Utah and BYU seemed like a good fit with its neighbors, which just left the 20th spot open. I debated a lot about this, and went with Boise State solely on their history with the Utah schools and their football dominance in the 2000s. Other MW schools such as SDSU or CSU may be a better alternative.

| Iowa State | Boise State |
| Kansas | Houston |
| Kansas State | Rice |

| Nebraska | TCU |
| Oklahoma | Texas |

Southern Conference: While the current Southern Conference is operating within the FCS, both the SEC and ACC formed as a result of teams leaving the SoCon in 1932 and 1953 respectively. As a result, it would make sense to rejoin these two conferences into a superconference.

| Florida | Florida State |
| Georgia | Georgia Tech |
| Kentucky | Maryland |
| LSU | NC State |
| Mississippi State | North Carolina |

Metro Conference: In 1990, a 16-team superconference was proposed that would include most of the major independents of the time. While those plans never came to fruition, with most teams ending up in the Big East and CUSA, I thought it would be fun to morph that idea into a modern-day conference comprising the Northeast and major cities from the North. I included Notre Dame as the 20th member due to their previous ties with the Big East and to bolster the prestige of the conference, but if you would want to keep them independent I don’t blame you. Maybe Tulsa as a replacement?

I’m sure everyone’s already tired of realignment posts this offseason, but I’d lose to hear comments and critiques on this layout!
