Original Title: Departing Oregon Center Jackson Powers-Johnson says players should think through their commitments more and not be so quick to transfer. Says recruits should find a place they can commit to “all the way”.
I’m not sure how many watched the Oregon Ducks Pro Day on Fubo today, but I thought some comments from Jackson Powers-Johnson were worth relaying.
JPJ was a mid 4 star prospect out of Utah who stuck with Oregon through a coaching change and is projected as the 2024 Draft’s top Center and a 1st round pick. A couple of his quotes lauded Oregon, such as “How they develop linemen here is second to none, and I’ll die on that hill.” and “The biggest thing is if you buy into this place, this place will buy into you right back.”
He also showed off his Nike and Oregon tattoos and said “This place is truly home for me, and a place that I will come back to as much as possible.”
Asked about whether he considered transferring after Mario Cristobal and his staff left and he said: “I think buying into a program is more than a coach and some guys don’t really commit all the way and are too quick to do that. I get that sometimes a new coach might change a scheme or want his own guys, but a lot of guys just didn’t think their commitment through. I found a place that I wanted to be and there’s no place better than Oregon to commit to being as a lineman.”
