Hello everyone,
Masterofballs here. Looking to get your feedback on wolfballs. What went well, what didn't go well and what can we do to improve things. I'll start,
The good
-
Email campaign brought in some fresh blood and views. Many of those people are not in the tech circles im usually at or the freespeech circles many of us came from. So the fediverse and our culture is new to them. Which is good.
-
Many great based post.
-
We have a decent spot in the fediverse and a well known name now.
-
We are good about promoting alt tech. My hate for big tech is really what fuels my desire to host. Its not out of love.
The bad
-
Email, it went to spam unfortunately even though I was careful to follow Amazon's guidelines. If I knew it was going to go straight to spam I would have sent it from my server and saved time learning their api and about 10$.
-
Performance problems. We need to increase bandwidth. I think dreamhost is limiting my compute power and that could be what is timing out.
-
Getting communities for ultra offensive content for freespeech absolutist set up and used without ruining the front page for new users and not signaling that I am a Nazi. Hasn't really worked out. Lots of criticism around this and communication isn't great. We can try lots of things around this if we have users willing to experiment with different site policies.
Ideas
I could build a few things to improve the experience
A web shop for swag
A new UI
A shit coin crypto currency

For number 3 of the bad, on lemmur it's impossible for offensive content not to pop-up on the front-page without blocking the community after seeing it. I think that if you want offensive communities on Wolfballs you should take a poll and let the overall community decide if they want offensive posts (like porn, gore, or rape) on the front-page or at all. I would like more normal content posted to Wolfballs, like memes, pictures, and discussions that aren't political. The online shop is a good idea, but if its hosted on its own website and not Amazon I ain't clicking on the link. New UI doesn't affect me I only use Lemmur, but is a always a great idea for desktop users. Suggestion: Start a Patron or SubscribeStar for helping with server costs. Doing campaigns for promoting Wolfballs and posting normal content to lure people in is the best thing for Wolfballs right now. And if people don't like anti-vacine, and American South level conspiracies then they can leave.
