Let’s say the PAC-2 does get relegated and is forced to join up the Mountain West in some fashion. If they decide to go to 16 teams, could they be as good as the former WAC? At the very least they would easily make for the best G5 in the country, even if that isn’t saying much. Here’s a list of former WAC schools (in its prime) versus current Mountain West schools:

Now you tack on ORST/WSU (two former Power programs) and some variety of UTEP, NMSU, Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, UTSA, Memphis, or even St. Mary’s/Gonzaga for basketball, you have a lineup with similar pedigree/status to the old WAC. I know this sounds like a cope post for a fan left behind by realignment, but I want to make the best of a bad situation and have at least a little bit of hope for the future.
