I was listening to the Locked on Bama podcast this morning and the hosts were discussing this. The answer they came up with is Bo Jackson, which is tough to argue with. He was a phenomenal athlete and the decade of the 80’s would have looked quite different if he had chosen the Tide.
Personally, I have to consider Peyton Manning, as he is one of the best to ever play QB. Imagine that guy coming in after Bama won the 1992 NC. Shaun Alexander and he would have been on the same team in 1996 & 1997. What a great duo that would have been.
Under Saban, I don’t think any single player from a rival would have had the impact those two would have had. There have been some fantastic players on both Tennessee and Auburn through those years though.
