When pressed to discuss why they were the party of the Confederacy and KKK, the Democrats contend that there was a switch in their ideologies back in the early 20th century, while Republicans deny this happened at all. Both try to claim President Lincoln.

However, I believe they are both misguided in their assertions. I contend that there was an economic switch around the time of the New Deal. Socially, though, I would say this:

Republicans have retained a tendency to use moral justifications to launch a crusade for political and economic power - take the Civil War then, and the War on Terror more recently.

Democrats have retained a ‘divide and conquer’ mindset - by asserting value in specific inherent differences in people, they pit people against each other to remain as domestic elites, while mostly ignoring clout in foreign lands where it doesn’t impact them.

What do y’all think of my musings? Is this a sound comparison?
