What do y'all think? I've had a hunch that the problem with states is the fact that we in general use representative democracies. So much of what we hate about the state is certainly not something that people, if told they had to personally vote on, would stand up and actually vote for. At least I hope. I honestly can't believe, if we had a direct democracy, that most wars would occur. I don't think we'd have the war on drugs. Obamacare would never have been passed. I think the only reason that most shitty legislation gets passed is because no one is paying attention except for the people with money wanting to get the legislation passed to enrich themselves.
