Craziest quote ever:
There is a growing probability of a direct clash. And we don’t know what the outcome of this would be. Maybe the Poles would fight; they are always willing. I know as a historian that Article 5 of the Nato treaty is worthless. Under Article 5 – which allows a state to call for support from other members of the alliance – nobody is obliged to actually fight on behalf of others, but nobody can be absolutely sure that there would be no such escalation.
He basically hopes WWIII starts and the Poles are the second rank of pawns behind the Ukrainians.

what does victory mean for russia
like I thought victory was them taking over ukraine
which to me sounds reasonable, and without intervention russia gets its win and ukraine is weaker so would lose
but the world governments are tampering with this original calculation which is only multiplying casualties unnecessarily by aiding ukraine, baiting russia into greater conflict
because russia wants to win, in practice it is now kind of fighting ukraine plus the other governments that are providing help. so we could perhaps only hope russia has a decisive victory somehow?
or, they declare their real intent was only to liberate a few areas and then retreat on a win. but I'm not sure they want this
so idk how we can have the other governments pull out of ukraine and just let russia take it. it seems they will continue to aid. which means peace maybe relies on russia defeating ukraine.
i guess the other question is how much loss russia is willing to sustain. it seems they are committed to potentially endless loss here of seeming necessity. it seems hard to envision russia losing here, but with lots of loss of life with world governments continuing to aid ukraine.
