Phillip Rivers ranks 2nd in most consecutive starts for a QB in NFL history with 252. He would also play through severe injuries. In the 2007 AFC Championship, he played on a torn ACL while facing the undefeated Patriots and given the circumstances, had a damn good game. He suffered a Lisfranc injury at the end of the 2006 regular season, which he played through in the playoffs. Played the 2014 season with a bulging disc in his back. He most likely played with even more moderate to severe injuries but Rivers was famously hush-hush about his injuries.
Eli Manning ranks 3rd in most consecutive starts for a QB in NFL history with 222, but would be even more if it wasn’t for Ben McAdoo (obligatory fuck McAdoo). In 2007 Manning suffered a contusion of the AC joint, but played through it. In 2009, Manning was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis but played through it. However for the most part, Manning was able to evade any serious injuries and was just an extremely reliable and healthy quarterback throughout his whole career.
Ben Roethlisberger, while not charting on the most consecutive starts for a NFL QB list, constantly played through injuries in his career. (Sorry these dates are going to be all over the place), In 2016 Big Ben suffered a knee meniscus tear, but missed just 1 game following surgery. In 2010 he suffered a pedal foot fracture but played the following week and didn’t miss any game time. In 2010 he suffered a head nose fracture but didn’t miss a snap. In 2011 he suffered a pedal foot sprain but played through it. In 2011 he suffered a hand thumb fracture but didn’t miss a snap. In 2013 he suffered a hand finger dislocation but continued playing. In 2016 he had an A/C sprain with torn ligaments in his throwing shoulder, but he missed 0 games. In 2018 he suffered a chest rib fracture but missed no games. In 2021 he suffered an inguinal hip strain but played through it. (There are even more injuries he’s played through, this is just some of them)
This QB class produced three franchise QBs that played with their teams well over a decade but it also brought into the league three QBs that were historically dependable and would play through moderate to severe injuries on a regular basis. Just something I noticed that was rather unique and another tidbit regarding this historic class.
