This award almost always goes to the coach of a team that overachieves from the expectations of that team for the season. The way this award is voted on basically puts coaches of well run, well coached teams at a disadvantage of possibly winning Coach of the Year, which I find highly ironic.

Kevin Stefanski, in four years of being a head coach, has won Coach of the Year twice. He has never won a division title, and his overall record is 37-30.

Meanwhile Mike Tomlin has never won CotY. Pete Carroll has never won CotY. Andy Reid won it once, with the Philadelphia Eagles!

Meanwhile highly acclaimed coaches like Jason Garrett, Dick Jauron, Matt Nagy and Brian Daboll have won the award. Ron Rivera has won it twice.

Anywho much like the MVP award needing to be renamed Quarterback of the Year, the Coach of the Year also needs to be renamed.

/End rant.
