So a link was shared to a "stop having kids" website. The "vegantinatalists" are against bringing children in to existence, because everyone suffers in life, so they argue that to have children is to inflict suffering on an "innocent" child, which is wrong in their estimation. They are also against "animal cruelty", so try to not consume animal products and are vegan. I was going to critique this movement, but found something I found more interesting I wanted to share. I have been aware of there being heretical sects throughout history who have forbid marriage (yes?), so I initially searched for that. Instead I found 1 Timothy 4:1-3:

"(Warnings against False Teachers) Now the Spirit manifestly saith, that in the last times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to spirits of error, and doctrines of devils, Speaking lies in hypocrisy, and having their conscience seared, Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithful, and by them that have known the truth."

There seems to be an overlap of antinatalists with secularism or anti-Christian religious views. While some of them marry, being open to having kids overlaps with the purpose of marriage, and so to be closed to having kids is kind of against this (although some of them are ok with adopting). I was surprised especially to see the "abstain from meats" passage (!). So I was wondering if this was a movement that this passage was referencing that would come about in the "last times".

For those who did not believe they ought to have kids in Christendom, such people could become monks, priests, nuns, and so on. I believe there is also a lesser known vocation to the committed single life. They would often voluntarily abstain from meat out of penance as well. But they did not deny the value of marriage and having children, or the lawfulness of consuming meat, or of the truth of the Christian religion, which the "vegantinatalists" tend to do.

What do you think about this movement and some of its errors?
