    Yeah, no that's disgusting. Using pee and poop as fertilizer goes back millenia, so there has to be a better way. Maybe a separate urine toilet or urine separating toilet with smaller flush sending it to a compost with mulch/ash ?

    In dad's farming villages, they would let animal poop decompose and dry out before using it for fertilizer/fuel, and there was less smell. They didn't use pee though

    Rural farming is messy business

      check out humanure handbook (human manure)

      seems like you can compost it like other waste

      I'd probably want to put it somewhere away from food

      I remember hearing a farmer say they got some treated sludge from the wastewater treatment place and it was potent fertilizer for whatever they were growing

        Yes, treated sludge is gold to farmers, in my dad's village, the cow manure was invaluable not just as fertilizer, but after the droppings had dried in the sun for serveral days, they were an excellent fuel source. The cows ate grass or hay from the harvest and converted it to milk + fuel/fertilizer

        I personally wouldn't do human composting, because if things go wrong....

        For urine: A simple automatic watering system, let's say rubber hoses on the ground, with holes cut at appropriate spacings, connected to a big water container that's connected to a urine separating toilet or a urine only toilet. Every morning, you turn on the tap or set an electronic switch. This will add water to the container and flush it to all the plants. That way you don't have to do the disgusting stuff and the urine gets diluted and spread automatically.

        Its really easy to spread parasites if you are handling human shit. But yes it can and has been done throughout human history. Its better to use the shit of a ruminant.
