Comment on ipads were just updated to 16.6.1 to fix a security issue that allowed pegasus to be installed onto an apple device. will iphone 7 running 15.7.8 get an update to fix the same issue?

Apple patches older releases for zero day bugs. If there is no patch, then usually it means the exploit doesn’t work on that older release.

That’s hardly a guarantee. In this specific case the problem lies in a shared library that has been part of iOS for ages (iOS 6+).

Older iOS releases get some security updates, but not all. If your device doesn’t run the latest version of iOS, you can’t just assume the updates you’re not getting aren’t applicable to your OS.

You can still mitigate the issue by turning on Lockdown mode, though.
