  1. Bilbo meets Gollum in The Hobbit
  2. Gandalf gets suspicious and sends Aragorn to capture Gollum
  3. Gollum gets captured and imprisoned with the Elves
  4. Gollum escapes
  5. Gollum reappears during The Fellowship of the Ring
