  They don't have paper for high schoolers to write exams on. They turned off street lamps. There is no medicine and no food (they listened to climate activists and went full organic across the country, leading to total crop failure). The money is worthless and people are hoarding dollars.

  I do not think people can get starlink or run bike generators when they are starving to death.

    ahhh I see, so they basically need to be bailed out by another country or entity and go in to debt possibly to avert further problems of immediate crisis

    are they also having problems in the aftermath of their civil war some years ago? I am ignorant of sri lankan politics but that came up on a search engine

      They are begging, and got some handouts from India and China. IMF vultures are circling now

      Civil war ended a decade ago, was horrific. Problems now are from last year. Last year they forced a ban on fertilizer for all farmers due to pressure from climate activists. Printed shit loads of money too.

      Now their money is worth shit, they can't pay to import oil with it. They can't import medicine with it. No fossil fuel = no electricity. And thanks to last years failed crops, they have nothing to eat.
