‘Civil War’ is boring as fuck. It’s about an old cynical journalist and a young naive journalist, the war barely has a cameo.

While I disagree with the “boring as fuck” description, “war thriller” is surely just as wrong.
It’s not actually about the photographers realy. That’s just the plot.
The war is in fact far more than a cameo. It is what the movie is about. But again, it’s not about the story of the war, or the plot of it.
It’s about what a war would look like, if it happened in the US, instead of some far off place we might not be able to point to on a map.
That’s what the movie is really about.

I found it to be more about the character interactions and their emotional ‘journey’ more than anything else. Even from that perspective it is lackluster. While others may find it to be entertaining it is definitely not true to the advertising.
