Comment on (Fc) Things are truly getting desperate in Ukraine as they implement the draft

Well, yeah. Things got desperate the moment Russia invaded.
They are handing out guns - AKs to anyone that wants. Only ID needed. They can't stop men from leaving. Their hands are full. This idea that men should show up at recruitment centers is laughable. The war might be over this week or the next. Don't think they have time for bootcamp, lol.

True. On the plus side, Russia did not send as many men as one would expect, and the Ukranians appear far more ready than anticipated.

The UA govt looked shocked on day 1. They had 7 years to prepare (could have mined the borders and destroyed roads) but they didn't. Though the UA govt is incompetent, the Ukrainian soldiers are resourceful and brave. They massacred paratroopers at every airfield, and Russians are halted near the East and South borders. Things are unexpectedly good according to the White House and the UA govt.
Only weak point seems to be the attack on Kiev from Belarus. All arriving Russians have been killed so far, but who knows how long it will hold.
If they can hold out for 2 weeks, Russia won't be able to win.

Mines are not very effective against aerial assault and missiles. I think they prepared in advance and we're seeing the results.

Oh, there is no stopping the missiles. Their airfields, bases etc will be rubble in any case.
But Taiwan is too far for PLA artillery shells. They have to use cruise missiles and air bombing. There is a limit to that. The 59 Tomahawk missiles Trump launched at Syria cost 89 million $. Even assuming Chinese missiles are 1/10th the price, its still 150,000 $ per missile. Air sorties are expensive too. Fighting the whole war with missiles and air power is impossibly expensive. They soften the target, then have cheaper infantry and armor move in to hold.
So at some point, the Chinese need to land. Therefore mines.
