Yay birth quarter Super Adjustable! mine’s D-2, so likely a very similar model, but I also have a 1970 P3 with the metal base plate. They are both good, but the older one feels better made.

- Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic
- Razor: Gillette Super Adjustable 109 PD (E-3)
- Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (1)
- Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Scots Pine Sheep - Soap
- Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Sni Mato - Aftershave
- Post Shave: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Liniment
My first ever razor was a Slim Adjustable which has similar geometry to this one. They have positive blade exposure, but on the lower settings they give me close, comfortable shaves. This one popped up on eBay for a reasonable price, in great condition, and it’s my birth quarter to boot. I don’t use it very often, but I’m happy to have it.

I believe it. I know the plastic they used is going to last a very long time, and I’m sure the stockholders were happy with the change, but yeah.

I think of the 109 as the Black Beauty. I have a rare one with gold plating but was unaware that there were other variants.

I’ve certainly heard of that nickname for it. Is it really all that beautiful, though?! 🤣
Eye of the beholder, etc. etc.

I think that it mostly relates to the handle. Are there any other adjustable razors with a black handle?
