It doesn’t mean it has to change for you or anyone else, but every word is a symbol, and every symbol is subjective to the person using it. Obviously I know the historical context of the word, but that doesn’t stop present day experiences from affecting those symbols in my mind. Unfortunately you can’t control how I define or use a word, as much as you’d like to. If you love guns and war and organized mass murder, you’re a tankie in my book.

And it not being “objectively true” doesn’t mean I care! Look friend, I’m obviously not going to go around trying to use “my version” of words I’ve ironically redefined for a “snarky” Internet comment, no one else would even understand it. But if all you post about is missile guidance systems and gun manufacturers, I’ll call you a tankie in my head and laugh. At least something about it will be funny then (seriously, I just haven’t seen one funny/comprehendable meme in that community, so I just assume they’re all nut jobs).
