Comment on Guys, please send your thoughts and prayers to Senor Cuckberg
squashkin@wolfballs.com 2 years agooh ok, yeah for sure! I have seen some people who were genuinely unaware of this which is partly why I wanted to comment.
There are lots of leftists there too, but the algorithm just feeds you whatever you view, so you won't get lots of them unless you view their stuff and comment on it.
I've seen some people who have just understandably avoided it because of its bad privacy policies, but then they developed views of the platform that are not accurate.
Content-wise there really is a huge variety of good stuff on there and it can be addictive in a good way.
Again, I am mostly against it, but I acknowledge that it's a compromise - some people feel they can trade some privacy to consoom certain content or be able to get a message out there more.
This is from 2019 and it's only grown since then:
TikTok ... was comprised of largely liberal opinions. However, conservative thought has seen an explosion on the platform, with tags like “#trump2020” and “#conservative” receiving between 20 and 121 million views.
TikTok is obviously not without faults. For one, TikTok heavily censors videos that don’t necessarily agree with the PRC’s foreign policy. According to a recent Washington Post report, while searching #hongkong on Twitter returns to you results about current protests occurring in the region and various political takes on the situation, doing the same on TikTok returns “playful selfies, food photos, and singalongs.” This altering of reality is deeply unsettling and challenges the idea of an innocent, fun-loving atmosphere in the app.

tons of ideas that I thought I was only finding online with smaller groups of people maybe a decade ago, some zoomers (it's really people of all ages) rushing full steam ahead on spreading to thousands of people
I saw for example a patriots.win unofficial account that had thousands of views - to me that's kind of a huge boost to reddit alternatives

Wow, huge eyeopener for sure. Thanks so much. I avoided TikTok because of the reasons you correctly listed above.
Also the format was a bit too fast for me. I don't like the "shorts" format. I feel its totally ruining my attention span. I really prefer slow, long format content. It feels more natural.
