problem is, there's no way to really confirm or deny this is true, therefore it would seem to be able to be discarded as an irrelevant claim

I guess now I can work off more anecdotes I'm seeing, but online and with people I know it seems to have been mostly a mild cold (...or they're renaming colds "covid")

but a few people have mentioned that they've seen cases with people with messed up lungs - this objection still sticks out to me. to this objection though I'd need to ask how many cases are there like this, and if things like bronchitus or pneumonia or something else couldn't cause the same result. There are people working in healthcare reporting this that I know, so not lying to me but they could be somehow wrong about what they're seeing so I wonder if there is more to the story. They could also be repeating things they've heard so I might need to probe them again but some of them work directly with patients so as to be suggesting they have firsthand observance of this effect.
