cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 2 days agoThe most effective check on airplane nonsense aside from the simple X-ray/metal detector for guns are the passengers. Back when hijackings were in fashion and again today it’s not the TSA strip searching kids and wiping down grandmas for bomb residue. It’s the agreement between a bunch of strangers that if someone acts a fool they get their teeth kicked in and duck taped to a chair.

I remember that. When hijackings were common, everyone knew to sit tight, follow directions, and it would be fine in the end. Then 9/11 changed that calculus. Now every passenger will immediately fight for/with their lives to stop it.
That, and the hardened cockpit door you can’t even shoot your way into anymore.
