tuckerm@feddit.online 2 weeks agoI’m OK with it because some of them have been good, like the Metroid first-person shooter games. (I haven’t played them, but I know that people liked them.)
I think one of the reasons it doesn’t work well with movies is that changing the genre of a movie also changes its tone. But with games, the gameplay genre is different from the narrative genre. You can make a strategy game, platformer, or shooter with the same tone, and so it stays “true” to the original setting, and it makes sense as being in the same fictional universe.
