Look, I can open a bag of chips. I could just clamp the fuck down and rip it the fuck to shreds without a second thought. I want to open the bag without exploding the contents. So I pull just a little. And I struggle to find the point that it gives without losing control. I want a word for the struggle.

At the risk of teaching you something you might already know:
Instead of pulling both sides independently, you should brace your hands against each other. Grab the sides of the bag with your fingers, and have the palms push against each other. That way, as soon as the bag opens, the pressure between your palms is released and you “automatically” stop pulling the bag open.

The “heels” of my hands push against each other, giving very easy and precise control. It’s kind of hard to explain in words how much advantage (pun intended) this method has over just pulling both sides independently. Try it!
