The difference here seems to be that they explicitly know what their “customers” are doing (e.g. terrorism/energy infrastructure sabotage) and allow/endorse that.

A/I has denied these claims that the U.S. government has made, they are not terrorists, they merely share communication services for people who are against with fascism, racism, militarism, and bigotry of all kinds. The majority of their users are regular people, perhaps activists, and the few that advocate for violence doesn’t make A/I terrorists. I can guarantee you there are more extremists on Gmail than on A/I, more illegal content is distributed through services like Google Drive and MEGA than A/I does, more hate is spread by Medium and Substack compared to A/I’s blog services.

The Trump admin is using the terrorist designation to restrict an organisation that does not agree with their ideology. Antifascism and protest is not terrorism.
