What they explicitly know is that their “customers” are not capitalists, racists, fascists, sexists, militarists, or authoritarians because they ask during registration. It is not the duty nor the right of a service provider to ensure how its users use their platform, contrary to what you have been told for decades to justify surveillance. It’s not a hard concept: either criminals can get privacy too, or no one can. Sure preventing terrorist attacks is something no one can oppose, but just like that you also silence every journalist, activist and whistleblower that just wants a secure service without Uncle Sam’s hands in it
